Assessment became a focus area during this practicum, especially as I worked to include both formative and summative strategies that supported student learning and reflection. I practiced building in check-ins, exit tickets, self-assessments, and peer feedback opportunities. With such a diverse classroom, I also adjusted assessments to match student readiness and language levels. Assessment wasn't just about grading, it became a tool to help me reflect, differentiate, and adapt in real-time.
I want to strengthen my use of student self-assessment and feedback cycles. One of my next steps is to co-create success criteria with students and make assessment more transparent and engaging. I plan to explore tools like digital portfolios and student-led conferences to build student ownership and track learning progress meaningfully.
My goal is to incorporate multimedia elements, such as 3D models, visual journals, and digital tools, into at least three assessments per semester to create a more engaging and motivating assessment environment for my students. This builds on my previous success with the “Visually Speaking: Starting with the Why” assignment, where I used a 3D-printed puzzle cube and a visual journal to represent ideas and reflect on my coursework. For my future classes by the end of the school year, I will measure the impact of multimedia assessments through student feedback and improved learning outcomes, ensuring they support my students’ academic growth and align with my teaching philosophy of engagement, inclusion, and technology integration.
Goal - My aim for third-year practicum is to design assessments that comprehensively evaluate students' learning, incorporating both formative and summative elements, while fostering differentiation in the learning process.
Strategy - I'll analyze the curriculum, design assessments aligning with learning objectives, and implement a mix of formative tools for ongoing feedback. I'll create comprehensive summative assessments and incorporate various formats to support differentiation. My regular reflection and feedback from my mentor will guide continuous improvement throughout the practicum.
Growth - As my practicum experience grew, I became more skilled at providing formative feedback in lessons and delivering whole-class or independent assessments. I developed assessments for each class to align with my objectives for student learning. My priority was not just to enable students to demonstrate their talents and comprehension but also to personalize assessments to their specific learning levels.
Future Goal - I aim to incorporate more multimedia elements into my assessments to better engage and motivate my students in the future. By doing so, I am confident that I can create a more dynamic and effective assessment environment that supports my students' academic growth and learning outcomes.
Goal - To effectively monitor my student's progress throughout the year by using appropriate assessments. I plan to achieve this through my assessment dossier activity, which will involve implementing strategies such as using a variety of assessment methods. This goal is crucial because it will enable me to support my students' growth by providing them with suitable assessments for the semester.
Strategy - To implement this, I will use a variety of assessment methods that are easy to follow and acceptable for the grade level of my dossier. By implementing these strategies and reflecting on their effectiveness through my assessment dossier activity, I am confident in my ability to effectively monitor my student's progress and provide them with appropriate assessments throughout the year.
Growth - Through my assessment dossier activity, I have successfully implemented a variety of assessment methods that cater to the diverse learning needs of my students. Reflecting on my strategies through my assessment dossier activity has allowed me to continuously improve my assessment methods and ensure that my students are receiving the best possible support for their growth.
Future Goal - My aim for third-year practicum is to design assessments that comprehensively evaluate students' learning, incorporating both formative and summative elements, while fostering differentiation in the learning process.
Goal - I plan to use the assessments that I took note of here in this google document for my future lessons.
Growth - In class, I learned about why we use formative evaluation over summative evaluation. I was able to witness firsthand the reasoning when assessing my assigned student based on how their reading was in the session instead of making a plan to improve overall while seeing how they were doing after our one on one time.

There are 6 strands that are worked into the 5 outcomes of ELA. Those outcomes are:
Assessment is a way of reflecting where the student is in their understanding and should be shared with the students so they know how well they are grasping the information, and the parent so if the student is struggling the students can get further support at home. Multiple assessment tools, aside from standard tests, can help teachers determine student progress and identify areas of required support for an individual or topics that need clarification at the classroom level. I want to improve my understanding of assessment tools and how to use them to measure children's learning appropriately and effectively.
For assessment, I learned how to provide feedback and assess a student's work and progress in my future class. I learned how to assess not only for my students but for myself also because I will need to make sure that I am doing what best for my students. To do so I will use Reflective Practice which is the process of purposely thinking about ones' teaching practice and actively considering whether it can be changed. Teachers need a clear vision of what teaching expertise is or what they want it to be so they can observe their own work with an eye toward growth and progress, and can envision themselves making changes.
