MRU professors have wide variety of opinions about AI. Some are optimistic, some are skeptical. Some believe students need AI Literacy, some believe we shouldn't encourage student's AI use. AI usage expectations are different for every class and these expectations can be different for every assignment - with in one class!
Tips for Success:
Always ask instructors how they feel about the use of AI
Good time to ask is the first day of class
Check the course outline/syllabus
Very important to read, it is like a contract
Instructors promise of what they are committing to
Check assignment instructions/guidelines
Commonly when introducing assignments, professors discuss matters like AI
At MRU, instructors use Turnitin’s AI detector to identify the use of artificial intelligence in student submissions. If you have been found to be involved in an academic misconduct case, you'll be required to undergo a review process. Should you be found responsible, potential consequences may include a reduced grade or assigned additional learning tasks. However, you have the right to appeal the decision. The appeal process is an opportunity for you to present your case, and you are encouraged to attend. Additionally, you may bring a support person with you to assist in this process.
Students have the responsibility to become familiar with the Academic Code. Students have the right to be informed of academic integrity expectation in advance
