ETOL Community

1st Film - ETOL Film Night Opening and Slideshow V3_Trim.mp4

Welcome!

We hope you enjoy your stay!

We all know how bad excessive screen time is for our mental and physical health so please take in our website, participate in the groups, check out the great events we have planned! But don't spend too long on this page, get outside! Enjoy what the great outdoors have to offer, even if it's just a ten minute walk or five minute solo. Then come back later and tell us about your adventures!

Land Acknowledgement

Calgary is located on Treaty 7 land.

In the spirit of respect, reciprocity and truth, we honour and acknowledge Moh’kinsstis and the traditional Treaty 7 territory and oral practices of the Blackfoot confederacy: Siksika, Kainai, Piikani as well as the Îyâxe Nakoda and Tsuut’ina nations. We acknowledge that this territory is home to the Métis Nation of Alberta, Region 3 within the historical Northwest Métis homeland.  Finally, we acknowledge all Nations, indigenous and non, who live, work and play and help us steward this land, honour and celebrate this territory.

This sacred gathering place provides us with an opportunity to engage in and demonstrate leadership on reconciliation.

What is E.T.O.L?

Ecotourism and Outdoor Leadership

Mount Royal University Statement:

“Open a world of opportunity for yourself in this unique program that explores the theoretical and practical applications of sustainable tourism, socio-cultural heritage, outdoor adventure programming and facilitation, entrepreneurship, leadership and communication. Gain valuable foundational skills in backpacking, canoeing, xc and backcountry skiing, kayaking, mountain biking, wilderness survival and rock climbing. Create a diverse toolbox of skills in key areas of program planning, risk management, leadership, environmental stewardship, critical thinking and problem solving that can be applied effectively across a wide spectrum of sectors.”

Others discover passions they had never considered or realized were an option prior to the degree.  In essence, we are taught to be community leaders, and we'd like to see what happens when we ban together in one place with all of our crazy ideas and passions to create lasting change in the outdoor industry. Or the world as a whole;

we dream big here.

But wait...we're so much more!

We know that for a lot of people, ETOL encompasses more than a degree. Due to the nature of experiential learning, ETOL has a way of impacting students in more ways than their education. Many of us create lifelong friendships, forged through the bond that only nearly freezing to death in the wild can bring.
