Film and Photo Submission Guidelines
Esker and Feature Film Details
Submission Deadline: October 30, 2023 at 11:59pm to etolfilmnight@gmail.com. Any films submitted after the deadline will not be considered. One video submission per person.
Before you submit, fill out an intent form! We use this to keep track of who is submitting films.
If you miss the deadline please still submit! However, your work may not be shown at film night.
NOTE: Not all films submitted will be shown during film night; we have limited time and many submissions. All submissions will be watched and voted on fairly by the ETOL 4270 class in order to not have bias cloud judgment of the films selected to showcase on the event night. Films from field school and expeditions will get first priority.
Time limits: Esker Film is 5 minutes and Feature Film is 15 minutes.
Films need to have context - no inside jokes - the public must understand as this is a public event with public consumption.
150-word write up describing the video must accompany your film submission as well as a land acknowledgement.
Music must be PUBLIC DOMAIN and follow MRU Copyright Policy.
Must be outdoor recreation/tourism/nature-based.
Follow outdoor ethics such as Leave No Trace principles.
Format: .mp4 or .mov work fine. 1080p will suffice. Do not submit videos in 4K. Works best if you upload your film onto google drive and then share a link. If your film is chosen we may ask for a higher quality film submission.
If you want your work to qualify for the Esker Award, it must follow the guidelines.
Send us a link or copy of your film to: etolfilmnight@gmail.com
