Discovery/Curiosity
Spark design in logo and icons
The spark designs found throughout our visual identity system, more specifically in the logo and icons, represent the spark of discovery people feel when they’re in Eau Claire. The neighbourhood ignites peoples’ sense of learning and curiosity with its constantly changing environment.
Adaptable
Colours
The flexibility and interchangeable nature of the colour palette caters to a broad range of audiences. Being a venue for a variety of events that attract all people means being able to manipulate the colour palette so that it suits the audience that is going to see a certain product.
Crafty
Image treatment and zine look
Graphic elements throughout the visual identity mirror the cut and glue feeling of a zine, which adds character and uniqueness to each photo while still aligning with the brand. For each image, the elements and translucent coloured cut-outs cater to the specific focus of each individual picture.
Unconventional
Newsletter layouts and imagery
Although we do follow a modular grid in the newsletter, the images and graphic elements have no restrictions—they break the boundaries of the grid. To represent the non-conforming nature of the community, there are no rules in regards to how to apply and edit the translucent shapes onto the images.
Fluent/expressive
Patterns and logo
Eau Claire is a place of many things, and we aimed to express the nuance and abstraction of the events, activities, and people that come through the neighbourhood. The curving arms of the “U” and “R” of the logo, and the patterns are visual expressions of the entrancing essence of the community.
