Showing Appreciation

Letting one's partner know how much they are appreciated for the small things.

Giving Gifts

Giving one's partner little things that remind someone of them, such as bringing them coffee, picking a flower from the garden, buying their favourite chocolate, etc.

Asking for Permission

Checking in with a partner before engaging in any type of romantic or sexual activity.

Respecting a Boundary

Accepting when a partner says, either verbally or nonverbally, that they don’t like something or don’t want to do something.

Respectful Communication

Conversing with one's partner in an honest and open way, clear of name calling or hurtful words.

Being Supportive

Giving love and encouragement to one's partner.

Active Listening

Listening attentively, without interruption.

Holding Space

Active listening, validating a partner's emotions, keeping the focus on them, and not jumping into "problem-solving mode" unless asked.

Physically Abusive

Intentional use of force. Example - Laying hands on a partner, or pushing.

Sexism

Treating someone negatively because of their gender.

Manipulation

Influencing one’s partner towards an action in spite of what’s in the best interest, holistically, of that partner.

Emotional Abuse

Using verbal threats and name calling, rejection of partner's thoughts and ideas.

Lack of Consent

Not listening to verbal and nonverbal cues a partner is giving off.

Taking Jealousy out on Partner

If something triggers jealousy, taking that jealousy out on a partner instead of communicating respectfully about it.

Making Someone Jealous

Purposefully following through with an action that knowingly will make a partner jealous.

Guilt Tripping

Making someone feel bad about themselves for personal gain, using guilt as a weapon to get one's way.

Dismissing Behaviours

Brushing a partner off or walking away when they are talking.

Interrupting

Talking over or cutting off one's partner while they are speaking.

Hurtful Jokes

Joking at their partner’s expense, with harmful intent.

Doing something that goes against the wishes or inherent needs & rights of a partner.
