The Target logo was first brought into place when Dayton's Dry Goods made its conversion by opening its first store known as Target in 1962. It started as a bullseye sign with the word Target inside before it evolved into its current logo in 1968. While they still change the logo's words and colors from time to time. The current logo, a large circle with a dot in the middle, seems to be here to stay.
Stewart K Widdess was the guy responsible for the creation of the iconic logo of Target Corporation. It started when Dayton Corporation decided to open its first Target store and contacted Stewart and his PR team to come up with a name and logo. They brainstormed 200 possibilities before deciding on Target which according to Target's website represents "Hitting a Target price." Widdess considered adding bullet holes to the logo but eventually decided against it thinking it would be too violent for a family store. Little did Stewart Widdess know he had just created the original design of one of the most iconic retail store's logos.
