MSU students will receive academic credit for the writing they complete during this program. This class serves as a rich learning space for students, who receive ongoing feedback from both peers and faculty.
The requirements for the course include:
Bi-weekly writing workshops, through which we aim to provide some form of certification to incarcerated writers for their participation in the program.
Bi-weekly class meetings for debriefing, discussing, and planning workshop facilitation. These meetings will occur during the alternate weeks assigned for writing workshops in a prison facility. During each meeting, the Program Director and Program Coordinator(s) will support students in goal-setting and reflective practices, trauma-informed writing, and self-care. Students will also read and discuss various texts to reflect on their experiences.
