Digital Portfolios!

About me!

Hello everyone! I am Jessica Wells and I will be leading you through this quick seminar module where we will focus on showcasing all you have accomplished in your teacher prep program through a digital portfolio. I am a former 5th grade Science teacher with a B.A in Elementary Education from Michigan State University and a M.A in Educational Studies from the University of Michigan. Please reach out anytime you need me by emailing wellsjes@msu.edu or by clicking on the green button to the left. I am so excited to get to know you all and support you in building your digital portfolios!

Welcome to our digital portfolio module!

Course Communication Policy

Throughout this module, you will be interacting with your instructor (me!) as well as your teammates. I have used the word "teammates" for years and have not broken that habit...I just mean your colleagues/peers/other students in my class. Here are the expectations I expect everyone (including myself) to follow to ensure we have a productive and positive time together!

Student-to-instructor

If you have any questions along the way, please email me (wellsjes@msu.edu) anytime. I will always try my best to respond within 36 hours. Some of us communicate best when we can see the other person's face so I am always happy to schedule a zoom meeting and talk through things with you.

You are also welcome to use your DP Notebook (you will set this up on the next page) to communicate with me. Please feel free to use the comment feature, type on the slides, or audio/video record yourself. Just be sure to comment my email address (wellsjes@msu.edu) to ensure I see it!

Student-to-Student

You will be communicating with your teammates throughout our time together through many different modes. We will use FlipGrid and Padlet to share our thoughts and connect, especially in the beginning of the module to get to know one another. You will also have an opportunity to review and share feedback to a teammate about their digital portfolio. In all opportunities to give feedback, make sure you are kind, respectful, and positive. When you are receiving feedback, keep an open mind, assume positive intentions, and ask questions if you do not understand something. Please treat others the way you would want to be treated!

Regardless of who you are talking to, please be mindful of tone and appearance in emails as well as through zoom calls. Messages can be misconstrued when we are relying on black and white text on a page. Check out this interesting article to learn more about this! I will hold you to a high level of professionalism to help prepare you for future employment. Use greetings, proofread, and sign your name!

Grading Policy

This course is an extension of your field seminar, therefore your grade in this course will be 1/3 of your seminar grade. If you do not meet each expectation, I will provide you feedback outlining what is missing. The expectation is that you fix your work and resubmit it. This course is a total of 30 points that will be added to your seminar grade. Please contact me with any questions!

Required Texts

There are no required texts for our course. You have spent enough money on course texts! You will use a variety of online articles and other multimedia sources.

Technology Requirements

You will need a device with access to the internet in order to complete your work. Please use a reliable browser (Chrome, Firefox, Safari) and make sure your technology is up to date. Your device needs to have a microphone and camera because you will be recording yourself. If you need any IT support, click here and utilize the university's awesome technology team.

Let's get started!
