This course taught me how to incorporate the idea of online teaching for all ages. We worked on building websites and having assessments done online using readings as well as recorded lectures. My focus in this course consisted of ideas on how to help those struggling to use proper study habits and the basis of staying on top of work in an online class. I went into the course not very good with technology so the course was challenging but was very eye opening. In this artifact I learned I gained a much better respect and knowledge for what professors did during covid.
In this course, we discussed the many issues that happened in school districts, such as racial inequalities and social class inequalities. We read stories of students who struggled to fit in and often felt like they were being looked upon by those who held power in the school district. This course gave me a better understanding on how others feel when it comes to racial injustices and other unfortunate setbacks of those with ethnic backgrounds face.
We discussed the idea of positive reinforcement, as well as motivational interviewing to help those in the sport, overcome adversity. Throughout the motivational interviewing process we used interview tactics where the athlete would figure out how to cure the problem or issues that they might have themselves rather than getting professional advice. This class was very interesting being that athletics is what I want to get involved in. Understanding the positive reinforcement behind coaching and teaching was very beneficial for me and I plan on using it in my career. Overall, the course was informational and will have a lasting impact on my career.
Throughout this course, we discussed many issues of racial stereotypes. We read many books in which we heard stories on treatment of those primarily of African American descent, as well as Native Americans. This course really stuck out to me because I am adopted into a Hispanic family. My family shares stories of the racial issues that members of my own family have experienced. Overall this course helped me open my eyes and my ears giving me the ability to relate, as well as hopefully make change in the world.
KIN 854 taught me many lessons of lawsuits and the protection universities owe to student-athletes as well as how they need to protect themselves when it comes to lawsuits and accusations made against a university. We read many case studies about athletes dying under the supervision of coaches and administrators. We also discussed many ways on how student athletes are hazed by their peers and the punishment that should be faced. Overall, the course was great for me when it comes down to a potential future when it comes to athletics and jobs in athletics.
In this course, we directly picked something that we wanted to coach and ways that we could help others become better at their skills. One of the main focuses we talked about was the difference sleep can get you as well as the many different ways you can practice something without using a direct equipment for your sport. The example for that would be baseball players don’t always throw baseballs when they’re warming up sometimes they use a football. The notion of practicing things in different ways that can be unique are very beneficial when translating it back to the sport.
I really enjoyed this course because we played around in “the sandbox” which was a randomly generated tool in which we came up with lesson plans and things that we were learning, and how to teach them in many different ways, whether it was online or in person or using many different mediums. This helped me the most because it helped me get a diverse background on the idea of teaching and the notion of teaching in many different ways or settings.
This course taught me the importance of teaching lessons. We used unique ways and ideas to help teach students in different courses. I enjoyed this class because it helped me come up with strategic lesson plans that can help get students more involved and interested in the class. I think some things that hurt students is they always think that the teachers are trying to hurt them rather than help them in which that is never the case. Teachers are always trying to help students.
We discussed motivation among teachers and students. I learned a lot about me as a student dealing with burnout/senioritis. This class helped me understand pushing through and getting the course work done. The focus we had was on the TARGET strategy in which we learned how to deal and face obstacles and continuously improve in areas in which we desire.
The capstone class is going to help me the most later on in life due to the ability to have a website to show future employers. I like the set up requirements because I’m able to show my work and the things that I’ve learned in the past two years through my masters courses. I also enjoy this website making because when it’s all said and done it is a good showcase for all of what I have accomplished.
In this course, we are working to solve a problem that we are passionate about. The problem I chose to solve involves athletics. I set out to make the manager role for the men’s basketball team have more benefits similar to those that student athletes get. The managers are a vital role in our success and I believe that they deserve more praise and some similar benefits that we athletes get. Areas I focused on were ways to possibly fundraise for managers and their academic careers as well as make the work environment better for them so they know how appreciated they are.
