Future Goals In Life and Teaching
My future goals in life and teaching are to become more intune with the upcoming generations. The world is changing each and every day and complaining about it does no good. The ability to learn and process information and ways to change will go a long way and help many more generations to come. I believe that three key areas in achieving this goal would be to work on my leadership, public speaking and reliability. While all three are distinct, they also work together and can help create a well rounded individual. They are also valuable to me in my experience with having ADHD. The ability to focus on specific goals and concentrate on achieving those goals is important for me.
Leadership: Leadership is a very important skill to have, and can help in all areas of work as well as in life. I think mastering the ability to be a leader is one of the greatest things you can learn because of the impact you will have on others. One way I will continue to grow through this is by being a part of a team, leadership groups on campus, as well as watching videos, such as TED talks on the importance of being a leader. Some of the best leaders are very caring individuals who are only thinking of the greater good. LEADERSHIP is one of the greatest qualities a person can have. Being a leader is not easy, and it is sometimes uncomfortable to be a leader. Those that have the ability to lead are very special and this TED talk discusses the importance of what being a leader is in the advantages of having good leaders and what that brings. I will watch ted talks as well as other interviews to advance my leadership knowlege and qualities to help me motivate others. The ways I can enhance my leadership is taking inniative and being a leader on my team as well as being a leader in the office in the upcoming years.
Public Speaking: Public speaking is something that almost every single person struggles with. Some of the struggles include rambling on as well as getting nervous. I believe that you can be a strong public speaker. It can help you develop relationships as well as inspire those around you. There are several ways that you can learn and develop the skill of public speaking. A common one is to practice in front of the mirror. This video on public speaking, has many benefits on struggles that are common when it comes to public speaking as well as ways to combat those struggles. I will watch videos to gain knowlege and tips on public speeking and then practice by speaking at events such as the Izzo Legacy or the MSU foodbank. I liked how they use real world examples when discussing habits that people have during speeches. I can practice my public speaking with the new role I am taking with meeting with donors and making sales pitches to enhance more NIL opportunities for Michigan State University. Overall, I think this video is very important and can help people with the many struggles that go into public speaking.
Relatability: Being able to relate to someone is also a very intriguing and important skill to have. The reason why it is so important is it allows you the ability to have deep and meaningful conversations with those who might not be willing to open up. Finding similarities in a person's background is one way to be relatable. The past eight months I have been working on a story about my journey as an adopted person. I chose to share my story for one reason, and that was to help others. As a young kid, I struggled with many questions, and often could never find the answers. The reason I agreed to do the story was because I know that there was someone out there that I would help, it has been over a month and the feedback I’ve gotten has been awesome. I was very blessed to have it published in the New York Times on March 9th. This article, holds a special place in my heart, because it is something that took a lot of courage to share. When I was approached about writing the story, it was to help others, who were struggling with the same questions that I once had. I have already opened up but the ability to continue to open up to individuals will help and create a opportunity to lead by example for others. The opportunity to use my voice and share my story has helped many others around the world and I have got amazing feedback from it. I have a very unique story and have the platform to help many people discover their own stories. I have the ability to connect with others due to my openness and ability to develop relationships that I plan to use when the opportunities present themselves
Overall, I think these three things are some of what it takes to make a difference. The reason I chose these three things is because I want to continue to make a difference and continue to help others. I think that the next part of my adoption journey is to go and deliver speeches as well as meetings with adopted parents and children to make a lasting impact and help young kids who have the same questions I did and still do. In order to do this, I need to work on the three future goals that I’ve set out to work on relatability, public speaking and leadership and I believe I will have the opportunities to complete these goals i've set out for myself.
