During the MAFLT Program, I completed many different tasks that were designed to connect the theories I have encountered with my pedagogical practices. The links below go to projects that demonstrate my personal passions and how they connect to my pedagogical convictions. Many of my activities are designed around food as I love to bring food into the classroom and help students use language to sit around the table and learn from each other.
My assessment materials are created to help students explore the relationship between specific regional cultures and food dishes. This assessment asks them to blend their research skills on the country or region with the ability to cook food and sit down with their peers and share a meal.
Food plays an integral part in so many aspects of culture. Food can bring people together and highlight the natural agriculture and passions of a geographical area. I chose this project to look specifically at tacos because in Northern California, where I live and teach, there are so many examples of tacos! I wanted students to realize the variety that exists and how tacos are so much more than "street food" to many places and people.
I am very passionate about gamification in the classroom! I think there is a wealth of opportunity to explore how students' natural curiosity and problem solving skills can unlock deeper learning. Here I explored a Spanish lesson supplemented by a tool called Gimkit and an explanation of how Minecraft: Education Edition could be adapted in the language classroom.
