A photo of my classroom "I can!" statement for students.
Welcome to my classroom. This space is designed to give students and families a clear picture of what learning looks like, what we are working toward, and how to stay connected throughout the year.
I teach high school English, working primarily with 9th and 10th grade English students. Our classroom focuses on reading, writing, discussion, and critical thinking through literature and real-world applications.
Whether we are studying classic novels, fictional texts, or student-selected readings, the goal is always to help students become confident communicators and thoughtful thinkers.
My students come from a wide range of backgrounds (economically, culturally, and linguistically), experiences, and learning styles. Some arrive to high school as already confident readers and writers, while others are still building those skills.
I design my classroom to support all learners by offering clear routines, multiple ways to engage with content, and opportunities for choice. Respect, effort, and growth matter more here than perfection.
Students in my classroom regularly participate in:
Collaborative discussions and small-group work
Analytical and creative writing
Project-based learning connected to literature and real-world themes
Independent reading and choice-based assignments
Skill-focused mini lessons paired with meaningful practice
