Congratulations to Dr. Cabrera!!!

One of our new post-doctoral scholars, Dr. Lauren Cabrera, received her official PhD from Virginia Commonwealth University.

Robin Morales wins the Julian Samora Endowed Scholarship award

Congratulations to one of the undergraduate RAs in the lab for receiving this prestigious award! This scholarship is given to students who demonstrate excellent academic standing and have an interest in researching Chicano/Latino communities.

Fortunately, everyone was able to come together in person this year to celebrate the graduates. Thank you to everyone who came out and helped to make the day special for our graduates!



AERA 2022 was a smashing success!

This year's meeting took place in San Diego. The MI State Motivate lab had a wonderful showing at AERA 2022 with multiple lab members participating in roundtables, giving paper talks, and presenting posters. There was even some time to enjoy the San Diego weather!

Congratulations to Krystal Lira on receiving the Spencer Dissertation Fellowship and starting a new post-doc!

Krystal recently received the esteemed Spencer Dissertation Fellowship to fund her work on Black student identity, persistence, and stereotype threat in undergraduate engineering during her final year with the MI Motivate Lab. After graduating this past May, Krystal will work with Dr. Felisha Herrera Villarreal as a post-doctoral researcher studying underrepresented students in STEM.

Congrats to PI Lisa Linnenbrink-Garcia on her new grant!

In recognition of her important body of work, Dr. Linnenbrink-Garcia was recently awarded the MIRA (Maximizing Investigators' Research Award) Grant by the National Institutes of Health. As MSU's press release explains, this is a tribute to everything the lab has accomplished so far, and will allow Lisa to expand her LEAP/Pathways project to examine long-term persistence in science fields. Congratulations to Lisa and the whole team!

Dr. Patall was recently awarded the prestigious Richard E. Snow Award for Early Contributions in Educational Psychology by APA Division 15. Congratulations, Erika, on this well-deserved honor!
