This advanced course for fourth-year students focuses on solving complex interior design problems through a comprehensive thesis project. The course emphasizes the progression of a project from data collection and programming through design development and documentation. Students are expected to integrate functional, contextual, and user-centered considerations to develop well-informed design solutions while strengthening their ability to manage complex projects, communicate design intent, and produce professional documentation.
This course develops design communication skills through two- and three-dimensional drawing, drafting, rendering, and digital media. Students learn to create effective presentation materials that clearly communicate design ideas while representing surfaces, textures, objects, and interior spaces. The course introduces freehand, mechanically projected, and grid-based perspective systems to strengthen spatial visualization and three-dimensional thinking. Students also explore digital illustration and architectural visualization tools to model and render interior environments.
Architectural design visualization tools are advancing beyond traditional two- and three-dimensional media to more dynamic and interactive immersive 3D environments. This course aims to enhance students’ abilities to select and utilize various fast-developing digital media within the design process, learning to use the tools for effective design communication. It includes exploring and using VR design tools in the design process to understand how these tools can be leveraged to transform the design process.
