In the CSUS department, a major in Environmental Studies and Sustainability requires its students to either get an internship or study abroad. For those of you in other majors, internships are strongly supported and encouraged by faculty so pondering the idea might be beneficial for you down the road. Taking the first steps to search for internships can seem daunting and stressful. Our goal is to get you thinking early about these things so that you aren't crammed at the end of your college career.
You're going to hear this a lot, but clean up your resume. Attend the resume workshops and get advice even if you don't want it.
Prepare your "Tell me a little bit about yourself" statement and establish a good first impression.
Research the company beforehand to develop a set of questions you might ask.
Breathe. Sometimes it takes a little while to hear back, but don't lose hope. Keep applying and interviewing!

Community-based learning through an international lens opens you up to new skills, relationships, and awareness of the world in ways that are difficult to grasp without physically being in these communities.
What if I don't have time to take off an entire semester to study abroad?
Thankfully, MSU offers programs during every semester and university break.

Are there scholarships offered for study abroad programs?
Yes! A lot of public and national sources, as well as MSU, offer scholarships specifically for education abroad opportunities. More information on scholarships and funding can be found here.
Do the programs have certain educational requirements?
Each program differs, but most have a minimum GPA required to be accepted.
Does it count for credit?
Yes! Education abroad programs range in credit amounts, typically up to 12 credits for a full semester program.
Do I have to do a program in my major?
Not necessarily. You can apply to any program to satisfy credits for your major, minor, or other required classes (if the program states that it satisfies those credits). This website allows you to see programs offered for your specific major
Is there a session I can attend to learn more about this opportunity?
Several times throughout the year, MSU Education Abroad attends on-campus informational events to attract new students.
