During the MAFLT Program, I completed many different tasks designed to connect theories on language learning with my pedagogical practices. The links below go to projects that demonstrate my emerging expertise in key areas of language teaching.
The activity I have created, "Local Sports," is an example of one authentic lesson I created for my students that involves the key aspects of intercultural competence. In this activity, students compare & contrast sports they are familiar with to three unique sports from other cultures that they are not so familiar with. Students will learn about the origin of these sports, where they are played today, how they are played and why they are important to that culture.
Together with other Spanish teachers from the MAFLT program, we have created an online beginning Spanish course that has 5 modules. This course will teach you the top 7 most frequently used verbs, "the súper siete," in Spanish while you practice listening, reading, speaking, and writing skills.
The Super Seven Spanish Verbs
está (is at a place / is feeling)
hay (there is / there are)
tiene (has)
es (is)
le gusta (is pleasing to)
va (goes / is going)
quiere (wants)
I created an assessment during the first year of MAFLT for The Potter's House High School to help with placement for incoming students. This written placement test is a good example of what I have learned about assessment design throughout the assessment course in the program. Although this is a solid example of an easy-to-grade and well-formatted paper placement test, I now want to redesign it as an online assessment.
