The core faculty in the MAFLT Program are also affiliated with the Second Language Studies program at MSU: sls.msu.edu.
As such, Dustin and I have attended faculty meetings, attended symposia and research talks, given talks to the incoming PhD students in their introductory course (AL 861) every year, and sat on the Surviving Grad School panel for the student organization, SOSLAP.
I have taught two face-to-face courses for SLS, LLT 807 Methods for graduate students and LLT 307 Methods for undergraduates. My syllabus and a sample slide for LLT 807 are embedded below.
I have also served as a reader for the master's thesis of an MA TESOL student who is now pursuing a PhD at Georgia State. Currently I am on the guidance committee and serving as a qualifying paper reader for a PhD student with strong interests in qualitative research. In Fall 2017, I also served on a search committee for the proposed School for Language Sciences, Literatures, and Cultures.
A few more light-hearted opportunities to participate in the CAL academic community have arisen as well, including assisting Suzanne Wagner in her Harry-Potter-themed session for Grandparents University and rowing on the College of Arts and Letters dragon boat team, racing to benefit the Women’s Center of Greater Lansing.
