North Central - Modern Apprenticeship Program

Recruiting efforts and indications of interest for the next cohort (2022/23) of the the Modern Apprenticeship Program (MAP) will begin in October 2021. MAP is a 3-year program, beginning in the junior year, that provides selected students with the opportunity to work for some of the best companies around Indianapolis, while earning certifications and college credit. The third year is completed post-graduation, and students may be offered full-time jobs with benefits after completion of the program.

Students must be on track to graduate with their class (Class of 2024), and need to have accumulated enough credits towards graduation to qualify for "Early Release" in their junior/senior class schedules. Interested sophomores should reach out to their 10th Grade Guidance Counselor.

Some apprenticeships may require additional coursework at J Everett Light Career Center or through Ivy Tech for certifications. Students are also required to complete a Summer Boot Camp to prepare them to begin their apprenticeships in the Fall semester.

Job Title: Farmers Market/Line Cook

Reports To: Chef Whitney/ Market Team Leader

Pay Range: $15 hourly

Primary Function: This position carries out transportation, set-up/breakdown, sales/distribution of Agriberry produce/products, and record keeping for farmers markets and/or stand-alone sales sites. Supports Chef Whitney in private catering events and/or events. Act as the prep cook, assist in the preparation of delicious dishes in the kitchen. They will perform routine kitchen tasks such as setting up workstations and ingredients, so that food can be prepared according to recipes.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

1. Double checks vehicles for all necessary materials for markets and loads remaining necessities. Including but not limited to: tables, canopy, props, packaging, cashbox, clipboards, transaction tablet, fruits, and jams.

2. While on site at any Farmers’ Market provides premium sales service to all customers and ensures a high quality market site is maintained at all times. This includes product knowledge, accurate and attractive signs, and fully stocked and appealing displays.

3. Site set-up, sales, and breakdown individually or with coworking Brand Ambassador. This can include setting up tables, canopies, stocking, writing and/or hanging signs, and making the market site ready for sales.

4. They will be deft and able to follow instructions as well as all health and safety rules in the kitchen.

5. They will also be able to function in a fast-paced, busy environment as a part of a team.

6. A great line cook will be quick and diligent and willing to improve on the job

7. Performs other duties as necessary, Follow the prep list created by chefs to plan duties

8. Delivery perp, Able to set food upon delivery, will package food delivery items accordingly

Qualifications/Basic Job Requirements: ● SERVSAFE CERTIFIED Preferred ● Accurate and quick basic mental math (addition, subtraction, multiplication, discount calculation) ● Highly developed communication skills. ● Valid IN Driver’s License ● Availability Nov-April ● Knowledge of health and safety rules in a kitchen ● Manual dexterity able to operate cutting tools and kitchen utensils ● A team player with good communication skills ● Patient with an ability to stay positive under pressure ● Training from a culinary school will be an asset ● Label and stock all ingredients on shelves so they can be organized and easily accessible ● Measure ingredients and seasonings to be used in cooking ● Prepare cooking ingredients by washing and chopping vegetables, cutting meat etc. ● Undertake basic cooking duties such as reducing sauces, parboiling food etc. ● Maintain a clean and orderly kitchen by washing dishes, sanitizing surfaces, taking out trash etc. ● Ensure all food and other items are stored properly ● Comply sanitation guidelines Physical Requirements: ● Able to lift and carry up to 30-50 lbs independently. ● Able to tolerate extreme temperatures while maintaining a good attitude. ● Able to stand for long periods of time. ● Able to bend, kneel, slide, shuffle, push, and pull safely with 25 lbs of product.

● Able to work at early hours (5am) on the weekend and evenings during the week (8pm) depending on events

● Business Hours are Monday through Saturday from 5am - 8pm
