Recruiting efforts and indications of interest for the next cohort (2022/23) of the the Modern Apprenticeship Program (MAP) will begin in October 2021. MAP is a 3-year program, beginning in the junior year, that provides selected students with the opportunity to work for some of the best companies around Indianapolis, while earning certifications and college credit. The third year is completed post-graduation, and students may be offered full-time jobs with benefits after completion of the program.

Students must be on track to graduate with their class (Class of 2024), and need to have accumulated enough credits towards graduation to qualify for "Early Release" in their junior/senior class schedules. Interested sophomores should reach out to their 10th Grade Guidance Counselor.
Some apprenticeships may require additional coursework at J Everett Light Career Center or through Ivy Tech for certifications. Students are also required to complete a Summer Boot Camp to prepare them to begin their apprenticeships in the Fall semester.

Fishers Health Department (FHD) actively seeks to support the next generation of public health professionals by hosting students for academic internship or practicum requirements. Under the supervision of the Assistant Director, Public Health Interns may support a variety of local public health activities in program areas including Community Health, Emergency Preparedness, Environmental Health, Epidemiology, Health Education, Public Health Nursing, Public Health Social Work, or other areas.
Each opportunity will match interests and skills with prioritized projects to best address the departments’ needs and the student’s academic requirements. Interns will develop a better understanding of local public health and the role of FHD in the community. Interns may assist in most activities of the department except for services delivered by licensed staff or of highly confidential nature. Each opportunity will require interaction across department staff and the public. Traveling to other sites such as schools, homes, festivals, businesses, and housing communities is expected. Interns must be able to work under the direction of assigned program staff and work in-person.

Contribute to FHD initiatives in one or more program areas.
Plan, coordinate, and execute health education courses under the direction of the FHD Health Educator.
Work with the FHD Community Engagement Lead to develop and deliver partnership activities with external organizations to improve health and wellbeing of the community.
Assist the department to identify, plan, and implement evidence-based and actionable preventative programs to address issues such as mental health, substance use, and social needs to enhance wellbeing.
Work with Health Inspectors to conduct inspections, sample collection, and routine surveillance across food safety, open water sampling, public and semi-public pools, and vector control.
Conduct research and analysis to develop public health policy, operational procedures, program materials or evaluation, and other educational resources.

Work collaboratively with all team members to assure an equity-focused approach to public health services.

Your job will be to encourage eligible students to register to vote and vote! You are not allowed to talk about any political candidate or party. Your job is to promote voting.
You will do things like:
Attend 1 hour training about voter registration and voting
Talk one-on-one with fellow students about key election dates and voter registration deadlines
Post approved voting information on social media (and in school newspaper/announcements, if possible)
Work with and meet at least 2 times/month with a voting expert from League of Women Voters Indianapolis who will help you with your work
Talk with teachers or other school officials who can help you with your work
