“Hopeful Thoughts”

by Isaiah Roberts

You will be exploring what negativity is and learn strategies to help you avoid it and practice hopeful thoughts.

Negativity is when you are just in a bad mood and just mean. Some people are very negative when they are grumpy in the morning, like me. I hate it when some people are negative for no reason at all and that's not fair. I think if you're going to be grumpy and irritated, just sit or lay down and just think of a way to just calm down and reflect. It's not ok to just "blurt out" on people.  It's unkind and it can hurt a lot. It can lead to kids not liking themselves and having bad thoughts about themselves.

Like my teacher says, "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything."  There are so many people in this world.  We have to say nice things to them because it's just mean to say negative things.  So, please say something positive or say nothing.

Below are some hopeful thoughts, which can lead you to say positive words to people.

"If you live in awareness, you can see blessing everywhere."

"Happiness never decreases by being shared."

“Characters BIGGER Than Life”

by Keenan Shah

Do you like a certain book series?  On my 7th birthday, I got a collection of books from the series called Magic Treehouse. I would recommend this series if you like mystery.  It is FULL of it!  If you like adventure series, I would recommend Harry Potter, Percy Jackson, or anything else that is written by Rick Riordan.  All the characters in these series think they’re regular humans, but they learn they are much, much more!  Let’s learn more about the BIGGER than life characters in following book series: Harry Potter, Percy Jackson, and Heroes of Olympus

Harry Potter is just a normal, troubled kid, well, so thinks Harry.  Harry Potter is a real troubled kid. He gets in trouble almost every day in school, and he is a little bit odd himself. That is until Harry gets his Hogwart's letter.  Harry Potter finally feels special in his own way because he has finally made new friends, and he is one of the most popular students in his school.  He has never liked his fame so much.  Harry is a wizar, a really rare thing to be, so his character is BIGGER than life!

Percy Jackson is a regular 6th grade student who’s about to get kicked off to boarding school again.  He needs to find a new job over the summer, but his   mom doesn’t care what the school says Percy is.  She always says that Percy is a really good kid, and she takes Percy to a year-round camp.  Percy doesn’t want to leave his mother, but she says it’s for the best.  But soon, Percy actually starts to like this new camp.  He feels more special than ever because he now is like a champion in the camp.  Everyone knows his name, and he has never felt so special in his life.  He is the one and only son of Posiedon, and for that, Percy definitely feels BIGGER than life.

The Lost Hero, written by Rick Riordan, is about a boy named Jason.  He wakes up on a school bus one day, having no memory of who he is.  He thinks he’s just a regular, everyday, mortal human, that is, until he goes to Camp Half Blood.  His friends at camp help him see straight  through his foggy mind, and they help Jason learn that everybody is unique in their own way.

All of these characters are special in their own way.  Be sure to find those BIGGER than life characters in the books you're reading!
