1. How do I contact you?
My contact preference is through my email: dan.blaydon@medford.k12.or.us.
Always contact the office directly when it is urgent: 541-842-3750.
I am available just before and after school for short conversations. We can also schedule a time to meet when you would like a little more face-to-face time for a discussion.
The blue homework cards that come home each night are an easy way to write a quick note.
I do have a classroom phone, but it is my least favorite. It does not ring in the room during the student contact hours, and listening to a recorded message requires scrolling and waiting through several robotic menus that usually take longer to get through than the actual recorded message. The classroom phone is 541-842-1897.
2. When can we visit the classroom?
I am hoping to see most of my families on Thursday the 21st, from 5:00 to 7:00, for the Open House.
I encourage everyone to come in and see the classroom before school actually begins. Visiting the classroom at this time is a great way to ease any nervousness for the first day of school. You and your student can come in and meet me. I will show them their desk and storage spaces, and give them a quick tour of the room. Visiting the classroom at this time will also give you and I a chance to talk before the hectic first day.
Emailing is the best way to contact me and see if I am in the classroom: dan.blaydon@medford.k12.or.us. I will be keeping long hours before school starts. I'm hoping you can visit!
3. Can parents stay on the first day of school?
The first day of school is a special time for everyone, but at this time parents cannot bring their students to the classroom on the first day. This is for safety and security reasons. As school progresses, there will be other opportunities for parents to visit the classroom. Be sure to complete the VIMS form!
4. How do the lunch tickets work?
At this time, Hoover does not use lunch tickets. All students have free access to the food offered in our cafeteria. Students may choose to bring their own lunch from home. Our cafeteria also serves breakfast.
5. Does the cafeteria serve corn?
Yes!
6. On what days are your extra-curricular activities?
Hoover is still forming schedules. I will post the days and times for extra-curricular activities such as PE, library, Running Club, and music as soon as I have our schedule.
Show and Tell is held on Fridays throughout the day.
7. What about homework?
The students will have assigned homework Monday through Friday. Please click on the homework link above for more information.
8. Do you really throw kids away?
That was years ago, and it can´t be proven anyway! And, IF it really happened, I´m sure the kid had it coming . . . repeatedly!
:-)
9. How is Accelerated Reader (AR) used in the classroom?
I use AR as a supplement to the district reading program. As soon as I feel students are ready for AR, I expect them to use it daily. It may be used as part of your homework routine. If a homework assignment is completed quickly, then the student could read their AR for additional practice. Students will read and/or test on their ARs in class daily during our reading stations.
10. Does the cafeteria serve creamed-corn?
No, gross! Why would you even ask that!?!
11. When can volunteers (VIMS) come into the classroom?
I would like my VIMS to start coming into the classroom the first week of September. Please click on the VOLUNTEERS link above and read through the descriptions. Email me to let me know what you would like to do and I will add your name into the VIMS schedule. Please be sure you completed the online form; link available on the VOLUNTEERS tab above.
12. If my child doesn´t finish their corn at lunch, can they take it home?
Are you sure your kid is even in my class!?!
