Competitions marked with an asterisk (*) are eligible for national competition if they students earns a gold medal at state competition. State Leadership & Skills Conference is where we compete and is typically held at Knife River Training Center in Albany each year around March or April. It is a three day and two night commitment from students.
State and *National Competition costs including the registration fee, hotel, transportation, required clothing, and food can range from $300-$3000+. That’s why we ask each student to pay at least the registration fee and help with fundraising to pay the remainder of their portion if they plan on competing.

Congratulations to our state winners from McLoughlin Middle School. Lorelei earned gold medals for both Cake Decorating and T-Shirt design. Jaxon earned two gold medals, one or Job Demo Open and the other for Pin Design. His pin was a real a hit at Nationals for trading. Everyone kept asking for the "doughnut" pin. Both Lorelei and Jaxon were eligible for National Competition. Daniel and Cooper earned bronze medals for Robotics: Urban Search and Rescue.

COVID-19 hit just as we were about to head on the bus to state competition and our n person competition was cancelled just like that. It was upsetting to students to say the least, but when they decided to go ahead with the competition virtually most of our students stuck with it and chose to compete. I know it is not what they expected or who they wanted it to go down, but I am proud of them for their perseverance and willingness to try a different way to compete.
We had to mail home the medals students earned for competition and they were recognized virtually by our school board. Between them they earned a total of 6 gold medals, 4 silver medals, and 3 bronze medals. They competed virtually in Cake Decorating, Team Engineering, Urban Search & Rescue Robotics, Mobile Robotics, Pin Design, & T-Shirt Design. Congratulations to all of our SkillsUSA students. You are all winners in my eyes!
Our gold winners at state headed to Kentucky in June for a week of competition, site seeing, and fun. They competed against middle school students from across the U.S. in Urban Search & Rescue Robotics and Pin Design. Myles earned our first national medal, with his bronze medal for Pin Design. Students enjoyed a night at Kentucky Kingdom, we played putt-putt golf, and took several trips around the longest Go Kart track in the U.S.
Students put on their serious faces for state competition, but also had time for a little fun and play. They climbed a rock wall, had some gladiator style beat downs in the padded gladiator jousting arena. We even got to explore at the mall during our downtime where some of the students decided to ride the electric animals around the mall and try some new foods for the first time.
This was year 2 for us at the State Leadership & Skills Conference. Our students always bring it at competition and this year students earned 4 gold medals, 1 silver medal, and 3 bronze medals. With 3 of those gold medals going to Myles who stepped up his game this year and will be going to national competition for pin design in Kentucky this June. Students also competed in a new area for middle school this year, Urban Search and Rescue Robotics. It was a lot of hard work and they had their trials and tribulations at competition, but they made it through and we have one team headed to nationals in Kentucky. We are thankful to Medford School District for their continued support of SkillsUSA and the donation of one of their buses for our transportation to and from competition.
Our first year as a SkillsUSA chapter and our students rocked it! We had students compete in Team Engineering, Cake Decorating, and Extemporaneous Speech. Some will be with us again next year at Mac and others will be moving on to one of the high school chapters of SkillsUSA.
I'm sure that we will continue to see great things from these students. Our team engineering challenge
gold winners will be headed to national competition in June all the way in Kentucky for a week.
We could be more proud of them and their accomplishments!
