School Day
Our school day is 8:35am-3:30pm. Students should arrive in the classroom between 8:15 and 8:35am. School starts promptly at 8:35am. Students should have belongings put away and ready to learn at 8:35am. Students arriving after this time will be counted tardy. Dismissal time is 3:30pm. We have 30 minute recess each morning. We have lunch from 11:25-11:55 and a 10 minute recess after lunch.
Dismissal Procedures
A note must be sent to school if your child's dismissal procedure is different than usual. If I do not receive a note, I will send your child home by the usual method of transportation. Please do not rely on your child to remember what he/she is supposed to do after school. Your child may get confused and may become upset if he/she is unsure of what to do. If you send me an email with a different dismissal procedure, please send it before 12:00pm. I don't always have time to check email in the afternoon. If you do not receive an email back from me, please assume I did not see it. I appreciate your help with this.
Parent/Teacher Communication
I will be sending a newsletter home every Friday. The newsletter will include classroom information, important dates, and descriptions of what we're learning in each subject. A parent-teacher conferences is scheduled in the fall. If other conferences are needed the parents or teacher may request one. I can be contacted by email or phone. Email is the best way of getting a hold of me. I check my email multiple times throughout the day. My email is nelsone@msd19.org and school phone number is 618-746-4738.
Supplies
Throughout the year, please check with your child to see if he/she needs more supplies (especially pencils, erasers, and glue sticks.) Do not allow your child to bring toys to school.
Birthday Treats
I know birthdays are an exciting time for your child. If your child would like to bring in something for his/her birthday, the treats need to be individually wrapped and store bought with a nutritional label. Bakery cupcakes are not allowed. The treats will either be taken to lunch or sent home. Please let me know if you are going to be sending something in.Â
Lunch Money
Lunch money needs to be in an envelope with the following information: Child's Name, Mrs. Nelson, 1st Grade. Your child should drop the envelope in the bucket by the cafeteria doors before school begins. Please do not send money in without it being in a labeled envelope.
Field Trips
Information will be sent home several weeks prior to the field trip. Your child must have a signed permission form to be able to go.
Medication
All medication must be administered by the school nurse. Please send it in with a note. Cough drops also need to be sent in with a note.
