We will model and practice these rules thoroughly at the beginning of the year and brush up on them as needed.
The ways children behave in class affect all of the activities that go on in the classroom. Learning occurs more smoothly when children are considerate, cooperative, and socially competent. Our rules and routines are developed to help support a positive learning environment. We spend a great deal of time understanding, discussing, modeling, and practicing the rules and routines so the children know what is expected of them. Positive and appropriate behavior will be recognized daily.
In the beginning of the year I will teach children the rules we are to follow in the classroom, cafeteria, hallway, and playground. I will remind them daily and we will help each other, just in case we forget. If a student is doing something inappropriate, I will kindly ask the student to do the correct action.
I believe children need to learn to make good choices. If a student has trouble making a good choice, I will assist them, by giving them two choices. One of the choices will be to do the correct task. The other choice will be to have a seat away from the group. This will allow the student to compose him/herself and then rejoin the activity.
If a behavior is a continuous concern, I will contact you as a parent and ask if anything has changed at home that may be causing the problem. I will then ask if you see this behavior at home and if so what you do about it. Also, I will ask if your child has mentioned anything about school, so that I can find the root of the problem.
The next step to a continuous behavior is a write-up and/or a visit from the principal. Also, something special may be taken away such as an assembly privilege or a field trip. I hope that these issues can be resolved before it comes to one of these actions.
