Dear Parents,
My name is Mrs. April Albers and I am going to be your child’s first grade teacher this school year. This will be my 24th year teaching, and my 12th year teaching first grade at Scott Elementary School. I’m thrilled to be part of Mascoutah School District! I began my teaching career at a private school in Palatine, IL, a suburb of Chicago, and taught Physical Education there for three years. I then moved to the area and taught first grade for eight years at Belle Valley School District. I have a Bachelors degree in Elementary Education from Western Illinois University. I also earned my Masters degree from McKendree University in 2011.This past summer I finished up 9 semester hours earing my Reading Specialist Endorsement from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.
My favorite part about teaching first grade is teaching reading strategies and writing. I love to “act” out many different characters, sing, and be imaginative and creative throughout my lessons. I hope your child can come home from school each day and tell you something they have learned. They may even come home singing a few songs! My goal is for your child to love first grade as much as I do, and love to read.
I am a big sports fan. I am from Chicago, so therfore I am a Bears fan and a HUGE Chicago Cubs fan! My usband Dan and I got married in October 2025. Dan grew up in Belleville and is a Cards fan. My husband and I have a son names Austin who will bwe 15 years old in October. We also have a daughter named Aubrey who will turn 12 years old in October. We have a dog names "Sport" who is 8 years old. My evening routine is full of baseball, soccer and basketball for my son, and piano and volleyball for my daughter. Homework is usually finished by the time I enter the house.
If you ever have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me. E-mail is the best way to contact me, I check it often during school and at home. I am looking forward to teaching your child as well as getting to know all of you!
Sincerely,
Mrs. April Albers
