In the past few months, the popular online game “Roblox" has been under heavy scrutiny. Safety concerns, such as monetary and sexual exploitation, have raised safety concerns for minors. In response, Roblox has been facing lawsuits and international bans.
One of the biggest issues facing the site right now is child predation. In a recent lawsuit from a New Jersey mother, Roblox has been accused of fostering an unsafe environment for children. The mother alleges that her child was targeted by an adult posing as a child.
“Roblox prioritizes profits over people. They prioritize growth over the safety and well-being of our children.”said Sara Bellers, the family’s lawyerIn, an interview with 6abc of Philadelphia
Bellers also called the site a “playground for pedophiles”, and cited disturbing games as evidence of Roblox’s negligence towards the safety of its players.

Another complaint fans have been vocal about is the banning of the online vigilante known as Schlep. He is known for conducting sting operations on child predators, even successfully putting six behind bars. Despite his efforts, Roblox ultimately banned him for “violating terms of service”.
Along with many in the media, Schlep’s attorney Steven Vanderport, found Roblox’s actions to be unethical. “It’s completely a backwards decision. Schlep was giving Roblox an opportunity to clean up their platform, and rather than work with Schlep and collaborate with him and find out what he knows and ways that he may be able to help them, they’re trying to silence him,” said Vanderport In an interview with NBC Chicago.
This pattern of inaction has caused more legal issues for the platform. Notably, in July 2025, the Louisiana Attorney General’s Office launched an investigation into the company’s safety failures. The state’s attorney argues that Roblox has failed to implement safeguards such as: age verification, parental consent, and adequate monitoring of inappropriate content. They also state that features like voice chat and direct messaging makes it easy for adults to pose as minors.
Altogether, Louisiana claims that Roblox is guilty of violating the Unfair Trade Practices Act. How they violated it was due to public nuisance, and negligence. They are seeking restitution or unjust enrichment, civil penalties, damages, disgorgement of profits, and an injunction that requires the implementation of stronger safety regulations.
This is not the only trouble the platform is facing. Smaller lawsuits have been filed, and have faced international banning in China, Saudi Arabia, Vietnam, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, and etc.
In response to these lawsuits and other complaints, Roblox has implemented AI moderators to remove offensive/inappropriate content. They’ve also improved their age verification process, which now includes a face scan.
“The company is deeply committed to the safety and well-being of our community, with tens of millions having positive experiences every day. Protecting children is our top priority, and we invest significant resources in advanced safety technology,” said a Roblox spokesperson
