MHS is able to offer the full 30 hours of online classwork and the 12 hours of behind the wheel training as required by the state for driver's education. This is done through a combination of student reading, embedded lectures, learning activities, end of chapter quizzes and physical driving lessons. Online driver's ed is only recommend for students who are highly self-motivated and who have good time-management skills!
Online Course Requirements:
Students MUST have their learners permit prior to signing up for the course
Students must complete all modules within the course (Welcome - Final Test)
Modules and their elements must be completed sequentially, and with good quality work.
Chapter quizzes must be passed with a 90% or better to move onto the next chapter.
There are 14 modules that students are required to complete
If a student does not complete all of the required work and receive appropriate scores for any reason, they will receive a failing grade for the course and will subsequently not receive their driver's ed certificate or course credit.
Students must have access to both their school issued iPad and internet connectivity, especially if choosing to complete course work remotely.
Course Grading:
This course is graded as a PASS/FAIL course
You must score 75% or better on the final examine to PASS the course and receive MHS credit and final certificate
Chapter tests are not included in the final grade calculation, however they are used as learning checks and must be successfuly completed prior to moving onto the next chapter
Students are required to successfully answer the chapter tests before moving to the next module.
Course Work:
Each module has different learning activities, but many times students will need to:
Read the chapter
Watch the video lecture
Score 90% on the chapter test
Students are given two opportunities to take each chapter test, after that it will lock and students must communicate with the course supervisor explaining what they are struggling with and how they plan to study the information in order to pass the chapter test. Then the course supervisor will unlock the test for them to attempt a 3rd time.
Communication:
Course communications should be done through canvas messenger (inbox) or via school email.
Please allow for 1 business day for responses, after a full business day please reach out again!
For example if you send a message on Friday at 2pm, do not expect a reply until the following Monday at 2pm. We will strive to communicate in a reasonably timely manner, and we expect the same from students.
Driving Partners:
Students are assigned a driving partner, students are unable to select their driving partners within the online program.
All lessons are scheduled in conjunction with your assigned partner and BTW instructor at the beginning of the course.
YOU are responsible for attending the lessons YOU scheduled with your BTW instructor!
Failure to complete the BTW hours will result in not receiving your driver's ed certificate.
Don't Forget:
All students will start their lessons from MHS, we do not pick up or drop off students for driving lessons
You MUST have the physical permit with you in order to drive, a picture of it will not work!
Closed toed shoes are required (please no flip-flops or slides
Many people ask - HeyDudes and Crocs are fine
You can bring water and snacks (upon instructor approval)
Please make sure your water bottle is sealable and fits in a standard cupholder (no open cups)
Snacks should not be messy or distracting
Dress for the weather
You many not need to wear your winter coat in the car, but should have necessary gear for winter weather!
Vehicle Information
We use a 2024 Hyundai Kona for our BTW lessons, this car is equipped with safety features like airbags, rearview camera, blindspot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alerts, etc. It is also equipped with a passenger brake for the instructor.
Course Fee:
The driver's ed fee is $300, this can be paid in the following ways:

Cash payment at MHS front office
Check payment at MHS front office (payable to MHS)
Full payment must be received prior to the student being enrolled in the online program
