School-Based Consultation

School counselors have various backgrounds and training in disciplines such as education, social services, and/or mental health. We offer current information and resources on trauma-informed and culturally relevant practices, mental health, social skill building, and academic development to students, any school staff member, parents, and community partners. Service providers who serve students within our schools may also seek our consultation due to the relationships we build with our students.

School-based consultation with a counselor can happen through brief individual meetings, group sessions, district level meetings, and/or through the provision of resources. In our roles as consultants, we foster interpersonal relationships between staff members and students, strengthen learning processes, and assist in developing community procedures to enhance school climate.

The purpose of seeking school-based consultation could be to address academic/behavioral concern for a student, developing school-wide social-emotional interventions, career/academic planning for a student, and student-rights advocacy.
