School Counseling Program
School counselors deliver school counseling programs that enhance student growth in three domain areas: academic, career, and social/emotional development.
Patton's counselors are uniquely trained in child and adolescent development, learning strategies, self management and social skills. Counselors are available to students, parents, guardians, teachers, administrators, and service providers to provide brief counseling, consultation, referrals, and connections to resources that benefit the academic, career, and emotional development of our middle school students.
Direct services (in-person interventions between school counselors and students) we provide :
Individual/small group counseling to students struggling with transitions, friendships, attendance, organization, academics, etc.
Counseling guidance and lessons in classrooms on career paths, social skills, and leadership skills
Assessment of student abilities, interests and achievement to help them make decisions about their future.
Mediation between students/peers and students/teachers
Evidence-based assessment and feedback of social skills and emotional intelligence
Indirect services (provided on behalf of students) we provide:
Assessment of student data including GPAs, overall attendance, school-wide surveys, behavioral/disciplinary data to learn about student needs
Student advocacy in intervention team meetings such as
504s & IEPs
Parent/teacher conferences
Grade-level teams
Attendance teams
Staff guidance on trauma-informed practices
Teacher consultation on student achievement and development
Referrals and connections to community service providers
Counselors are also available for School Based Consultation
