Ms 447's Track Team
Ms 447's Track Team
By Micah Kramer and Eliot Henrey
Have you heard about the track after school? If you haven't then here is the summary about what goes on in our schools track team. If you don’t know, track is a sport mainly focused on competitive running or sprinting and other aerobic exercises.
Last spring, the track team was founded and run by Ms. Hertz-Velazquez and instantly got a crowd of people to join. The track team goes by a constant routine every week on Thursdays. This is how an average day at track goes. It starts out with everybody meeting up in their uniforms and going outside to either Fort Greene or the P.S. 38 track alternating. Once the team gets there, everyone starts off with a warmup which includes various stretches followed by running. Fort Greene days are days that are meant for doing long distance and endurance because of the ideal large circle that reaches approximately half a mile along with the large elevation changes. Days at the PS 38 track are for running large amounts of laps and practicing.
Members currently are Isla Chino, Dylan Crews, Eliot Henrey, Max Jansen, Taylor Mcrae, DJ Miller, Nyasia Mitchell, Anjali Nayar, Isabella Ortiz, Lilyana Padilla, Rutmary Romerotorres, Jack Rosenblum, Robinson Turenne and Maya Margolis.
One member is DJ, he joined track last year and has been an important member of the team. As he states, “I joined the track team because I was always interested in running, I just never really knew you could do it professionally.” His favorite part about track is “pushing myself past my limits.” and something important to him about track is “not being afraid to grow and never giving up.”
The team usually attends meets at the Armory against other schools and teams like MS 442. Those meets are when different teams meet up and run races either against one another or randomly mixed up. The meets are organized by New York Road Runners. The Track Team has been very successful, at their last meet on March 2nd, the team had 4 members place in the top 25 for the 55 meter dash. The team continues to be successful, and are heading into their upcoming spring season. Let’s wish them all a good season!!
