Did you know that there is something good to kill? Well there is, and the insect is the spotted lantern fly. It looks very beautiful, but Is very dangerous to our plant life. It is threatening US agriculture. The Spotted Lantern Fly is originally from China and India and came to the US in the year 2014. Here is how it came here, the damages it does, and what you can do.
How it got here
So how did this Insect come here? It started all the way in China, India, and Vietnam where it was indigenous. It then accidently was introduced to South Korea in 2006. It first came to America on September 29, 2014 in Pennsylvania. There was a large risk of it spreading to other places so Pennsylvania banned the transportation of things that can hold the Hoper. It is now found in many states in America, like Connecticut, Maryland, Delaware, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Virginia, and West Virginia.
All about the spotted lantern Fly
The spotted lantern fly is an amazing creature. The spotted lantern fly really likes the tree of Heaven, but it can feed on fruit trees as well. The spotted lantern flies. The Plant hopper is very good at jumping, but struggles to fly long distances. It lays its eggs on hard objects like rocks and trees. The eggs are wight or brown and are easy to peel off with something. Every pack of eggs holds around a hundred eggs. When it is born it starts to have wight spots on it's red back. Adult spotted lanternflies have a grey back with black dots.
What to do if you see one
If you see a spotted lantern fly you should kill it Im immediately! It does lots of damage to our agriculture and can damage plants and fruit. If you see a big bug with black dots on a grey body you could stomp on it or kill it any other way. One kill can stop 100 other spotted lanternflies from being born. If you see the eggs on a tree or rock, you can scrape it off
