The New Mayor

On November 2, 2021, the election of the new NYC mayor will take place. Don’t know who the two candidates are? Well, do not worry, the Wolf Press will help to keep you informed! Both Eric Adams and Curtis Sliwa won against their party to face off to be the next elected New York City mayor. Eric Adams, as the Democratic candidate, wants to establish his campaign on public safety and crime, as a former cop wants to ensure safety and help the police system. Curtis Sliwa will be running on Refunding the Police and No-Kill animal shelters, among other things.

What does our community think about Eric Adams?

The candidate that is favored by the polls is Eric Adams so we will be focusing on him. We asked people who were walking past the school questions about what they want the next mayor to do for the city. A man named Jamie said, “I want him to stop corruption and take guns off the streets. But there are many problems.”

Rasheed said, “Gun violence, but definitely many things”

James specifically said he wants the mayor to “work on the CSO situation.”

“Me and my family ride bikes a lot, I think bike lanes would be important” Jessica stated. “I also want the education system to be improved. For example, smaller classes”

Holly, a woman who passed by said, “I see a lot of homeless people on the streets, that's a big problem. Also I want the mayor to work on the people in costumes at Times Square. They creep me out!”

All in all, public safety is a big want.

What does Eric Adams do to help schools?

Eric Adams wants to keep the city’s gifted and talented programs as Mayor Bill de Blasio said he would remove. This would help with kids who want to learn more and faster. Eric Adams also wants to establish safety in many communities and the city. He also wants to provide parents with more chances for their children. The system has been corrupt as to limit choices for poorer kids and not to provide as much. Eric Adams wants to help mentor kids in foster care so they could have a better chance to do well. Many people who would want to attend college can’t because of the expense of it. of this, Eric Adams wants to provide a system of childcare for each parent who needs it. He also wants to create a mentorship program for kids growing out of foster care. This will help many kids to be able to learn more and keep in school.

Who is favored to win?

Eric Adams is favored to win against Curtis Sliwa as more people voted for Eric Adams to elect the final two candidates. Curtis Sliwa is 40 points behind Eric Adams in the polls, Points represent how many votes are ahead and the percentage. Curtis Sliwa is far behind and might not win. Whatever happens on November 2nd, it will sure be entertaining!
