AI. What is it, and why is it doing what it is? Those are questions many might ask themselves, and questions that this article will greatly help you understand more about. Although in the end, deciding if AI is good or bad is up to you.
What is AI? There are many types of AI, but they can be split into five categories.
Text AI can take machines and Interpret machine language, Visual AI can scan items and identify things through photos, Chatbots (Chat GPT, Google Bard, etc.) or Interactive AI, Analytic AI which scans Data and looks for patterns, and Functional AI which functions similar to Analytic AI but it will take action if something is wrong, unlike Analytic AI.
Now, the pros and cons. AI can be beneficial proven by something very modern, self-driving cars. They work for longer than a human can and are more sensitive to small events like bad drivers on the road even at times when a human might be tired from a long drive. Of course, you have the rumors of Teslas crashing and other crashes and fires, they are still a huge help to traffic and can save people’s lives. Other useful benefits to AI is that it can diagnose cancer and help organize hospitals, among other things. Also, they can help do things to prevent human error. For example, NASA spent millions of dollars on sending a spacecraft to Mars. Then it crashed because someone made the conversions between units wrong. AI would fix that.
There is still a bad side to AI. For example, it can steal writers' jobs by writing books for them. All reason to have newspapers would be gone. AI can also help students cheat and not let them learn crucial skills.
Another flaw about AI is one of the reasons that the writer's strike is going on. Extras are being replaced by special effects and scanned on to the screen without pay by the movie makers to save money! By using AI. People have been inconvenienced, bankrupted, and turned into a pixelated character with AI! AI is not the greatest. And the teachers at ms 447 don’t have anything better to say about it.
“It makes people try less.”Although it is beneficial for some, please stop using AI for that. People want to watch their TV shows. That can only get worse. AI might generate movies! or write an entire book series, the entire series of a book within a snap of a finger.
“I feel like it is not helpful,” says Ms Aysun, better known as Ms A, the 7th grade and currently 6th grade ELA teacher.
“It can deprive students of the things they need in life when they can’t use AI. It is bad for cheating and, it is harmful to students' learning ability,” Says Ms Ahmed, another 6th-grade ELA teacher
“It can be helpful to adults because they can regulate and limit its use but to students/children, it can feel like the easy way out.”
It might seem like, why don’t you just ban AI? It isn’t that simple. Limits to AI could shut down the internet. In 2012, Wikipedia blacked out its pages to protest internet freedom limits. Imagine doing that to AI. You could make AI spam messages in protest. But eventually, someone has to step in. What AI can do is limitless. But what they are allowed to do is the problem. Can AI be stopped? Is AI a nuisance or a necessity? And the final question everybody wants to know, will AI take over the world?
