Ah, sleep. The essential thing our bodies need to survive. Did you know that you can go insane or have a heart attack from not sleeping? Well, judging from these survey results, half of you are at risk.
On April 2nd, our Wolfpress Workers sent out a survey asking about your sleep schedule. 138 of you responded. Here are the results:
“How many hours of sleep do you get each night?”
Most of you 447 people said you got 8 hours of sleep. That’s not great, especially for middle schoolers. Middle schoolers need to be getting at least 9 to 12 hours of sleep. And well, the results all go down from there. The second highest hour was 7 hours of sleep. Then it was 6. Online school is stressful, and this just shows how much we need a break.
On to the next question, “What time do you go to bed?”
These results were… shocking.
Coming in at number 1: 10 pm. That’s not that bad, as long as you fall asleep quickly. But, surprise, surprise, it all goes downhill from there. Next up, 11 pm. This is slightly worse. At this point, maybe you’re getting 7 hours of sleep at night. That’s not enough to function. A dramatic drop is next, at 2am. What. Are You. Doing. Awake. At. This. Hour. Go to bed. That is not healthy in the slightest. You will not be able to stay awake the next day.
Next question. (I’m getting scared.)
“Has your sleep schedule changed due to the Pandemic?” Most of you said yes. Here’s a nice little quote “Yeah. At the beginning of the pandemic I used to sleep at 12 then around the worst of the pandemic I slept at like 3 or 3:30, one time I slept at 4 and right now I usually sleep at 12 or if I can’t sleep at 1.” That’s not fun, an anonymous sleep deprived person.
This one’s the worst. “How long does it take you to fall asleep?”
The worst option is an Hour or More. Most of you said that. *Groans.* C’mon guys. Is your sleep really that bad? Are y’all doing okay? How’s your mental health?
What we have deduced from this form, is that we’re all sleep deprived. Here’s some tips to get a better sleep because you guys clearly need help.
Download a sleep app. These are great and can even monitor your sleep and help you adjust.
Listen to some calm music to help your mind relax. This has been proven to help with sleep.
Read a book. I know, I know, books are boring. That’s the point. They’ll make you calm down and become bored enough to sleep. Also, books are good for your brain.
Have a routine. This can help your body recognize that it’s time to sleep. It will make you fall asleep faster and can be comforting.
Drink warm milk or tea before bed. This honestly really helps. Milk has something called Tryptophan in it. When you consume enough Tryptophan, it produces Melatonin and Serotonin which help you relax.
