LIDL Review
LIDL Review
By Leo Honner and Micah Kramer
LIDL, a German supermarket opened near MS 447 on December 10, 2025. LIDL isn’t an ordinary supermarket. It is known for having discounted prices compared to the average supermarket. Ever since it opened LIDL has been hugely popular for good reason. It's very close to our school, has very good prices that can rival even a corner store, and has very good quality products.
"The prices are incredible. I normally get stressed out by big stores, but it's organized, clean, and easy to shop at," said Ms Landman, our school's tech teacher.
LIDL has it all, with many unbeatable prices and food items ranging anywhere from a simple pastry to a full steak. It doesn't just stock food, it includes many other items ranging from paper towels t1
o a bouquet of flowers. If you can dream it, LIDL probably sells it.
In 1973, LIDL opened its first location in Ludwigshafen, Germany. It was a small location with only 3 people and 500 products. However, it did well and by 1977, LIDL had more than 33 stores, and was focusing on being a budget supermarket. This approach worked very well for LIDL, with their number of locations rapidly increasing. By 1980, they had almost 300 stores and in 1989, they entered the international market with a store in France. This huge growth continued, resulting in stores in over 30 countries and more than 12,000 locations.
One part of LIDL that really stands out is the pastry shelf. The LIDL pastry shelf has very cheap pastries, with most items being under one dollar. This is incredibly cheap for a grocery store and surprisingly, the pastries are very good quality.
However, LIDL has its flaws. Being a budget supermarket, they don't spend as much on items, leading to low quality things like produce and meat.
"The produce is not great. I love deals, but if strawberries are only $2.50, but taste like nothing, they're not even worth it." said Ms Landman.
Despite complaints, LIDL offers great prices, good service, and is very close to our school. This makes for a great spot for Ms. 447 students to get snacks with their friends.
Wade Rimer in 803 said “I enjoy LIDL because it’s very spacious. I also would like to say that the food is relatively good while being very budget friendly.”
If you haven't already gone to LIDL, you should definitely try it out sometime.
