Everyone has different parts of school that they enjoy, but do the majority of students tend to favor a specific school subject? After conducting a poll to see what MS 447 students thought, there was a seemingly dominant subject that MS 447 students liked over the other subjects.
Overall, 211 people from all three grades participated in the poll; 85 from sixth grade, 80 from seventh grade, and 49 from eighth grade. The least popular subject was ELA, which only received a mere 24 votes. ELA got its majority of votes from the sixth graders. The third favorite subject ended up being math which had 42 votes. Math received 22 votes from the seventh graders, more than both of the sixth and eighth grade votes for math combined. Social Studies came in second, amassing a total of 66 votes, mostly from the seventh graders. who 41/80 of the seventh grade votes were towards Social Studies.
That means the winner is…Science receiving a grand total of 84 votes, crowning it the winner.
Cora Barret, 605, said “I like science because Mr Frantzis rushes everyone to get ready so we can get more done, and we do fun activities.” She added, “I like it because the subject is fascinating and because of the content. There are so many things to do with science, like chemistry and studying the stars. And it can be learning about animals, so there's a lot of different things to learn about.”
What makes a subject someone’s favorite? Is it related to the teachers, the content students are learning, or just the enjoyment of the subject in general?l
“Mr Joga and Ms E, my math teachers, helped me understand it better. It’s not like I love math, but out of all of them it’s probably my favorite.” Annabel Puliga, 702, shared. Annabel added this is why she likes math the most. “I guess it’s more fun than last year, and I understand it more.”
Peter Leadon, 703, favors Social Studies over the other subjects because, “It’s easier and more straightforward.” His favorite part about Social Studies is his teachers. “Mr George is pretty nice and Mr Fairbairn is funny, and they make a not very exciting subject a little better.”
All in all, every subject is pretty interesting, but specific subjects may be more enjoyable to some than others. Everyone is entitled to their own wrong opinion because lunch is clearly the best subject anyways.
