MS 447 Spirit Week is back and better than ever. The student council planned some really fun days!
Spirit Week is planned by the Student Council each year as a way to engage students. According to 7th grade teacher and Student Council Advisor, Ms. Zaretsky, “it brings out student creativity through the way they interpret the different themes."
Spirit Week got off to a great start with "Rep Your Pack Day!" Teachers went all out this year, from matching color outfits to even cat ears.
6th grade Sienna Chew’s pack each wore a different color of the rainbow to represent their pack.
Tuesday was "Bring a Stuffed Animal to School Day." The stuffed animal had to fit into your backpack, but not every student followed that rule. Giant squishmallows and sharks were only some of the stuffed creatures spotted in the 447 hallways.
Wednesday was "Decades Day," where you could wear clothing from each decade from the 1900s to the 2000s. We were transported back to the 90's with someone dressed as Cher from the movie Clueless, and a student in hippie clothing brought us to the 1960s.
Thursday was anything but a backpack day which was exactly what the name says. Students could bring a picnic basket, suitcase, or even a stroller! This was Maddie Ward’s favorite day of the week, and they brought in a tote bag.
The last day of the week was "PJ Day!" For the MS 447 students, this day seems to be a favorite each year. The entire 7th grade had a trip that rainy day, and let's hope their pajama pants were not ruined from dragging along the wet sidewalk.
Spirit week is a tradition at many schools, and it seems to be a controversial topic for the students of MS 447. Though many love and are excited for this week each year, some don’t understand the point of it.
An anonymous 7th grader said, "Personally, I am not a fan of spirit week because I forget about the spirit days and then feel bad when I am the only one not dressed up."
But you may be wondering why Spirit Week was created in the first place. Well, 7th-grade math teacher and Student Council advisor, Ms. Zaretsky, has some answers for us.
Ms. Zaretsky says Spirit Week was created because “It brings the community together so that we all have one common theme that we are working on as a school.”
We sadly have to wait another year for the next Spirit Week to come, but the year will not be a boring one, for the fun at MS 447 that never ends!
