A Night In The Big Apple
A Night In The Big Apple
By Ruby Yedavalli and Tessa Moyse
This year's school dance was inspired by a night in the big apple, the nickname for the one and only New York City. It cost two dollars per person and took place on March 13 from 4:30 pm to 7 pm in the MS447 gym. The event was planned by the student council dance committee - Shenandoah Fischer, June Stewart, Ana Levite, Skylar Chew, and Eva Stewart, who are all members of the student council.
Sylar Chew, 705 said, “We are going to have dark buildings on the walls and we are gonna have subway signs.”
With the inspiration of the beautiful city, the decorations were things like buildings and taxis. There was a photo booth that looked like a city landscape where people took photos with their friends, posing and smiling. Also, non permanent tattoos were available. These designs were all derived from things found in the city. For food, hotdogs and pizza were served because they are found in food booths all over the city. There were also lots of chips and candy which are big snack favorites amongst kids!
Before the dance there was a table outside of the cafeteria run by the student council, where students could buy a ticket for the dance during their lunch. They were also able to buy a ticket upon entry into the dance if they didn't pre-buy it. The student council needs the money to pay for exciting events like this one, so they encouraged students to pay for the tickets and food.
What should students wear to a night in the big apple? Themes of leather jackets and sunglasses are influential. Skylar Chew 705 said,
“I will be wearing a black dress because it fits with the theme.”
People were not forced to dress fancy so many of them wore simple clothes. But everyone’s outfits represented us, the people you would find in NYC.
The dance was lots of fun with a cool theme and exciting activities. It was enjoyed by many individuals who danced and ate. The MS447 student council will continue to plan dances and they hope students will attend them.
