Hallway and Bathroom Chaos: Where is the Etiquette?

This school year many chaotic things have been happening in the school hallways and bathrooms such as vandalism in the restrooms, violence in the hallways, and people not able to get to their classes because of crowds. Why do students do this? Is there any peer or online pressure that forces them to?

Hallways: 

The hallways have been more hectic this year due to online students coming into the building. Along with students, bad habits have been coming in too which has caused passing times to seem like a battlefield for 6th - 8th grade. There are people being pushed, shoved, dragged, dropped onto the ground, and charging at each other like raging bulls. These actions can result in bad injuries. 

One student that was asked about the situation has said that they have seen students pushed to the ground and have gotten hurt in the hallways. Other people have been seen jumping over the bars at the end of the ramp. Roughhousing in the hallways is a safety hazard and could get you seriously hurt.

 “I've heard big kids screaming”, said a sixth grader.

"It sucks" said another.

 7th grader Jocsan Rojas, a student who is constantly being pushed around in the hallways, has gotten into small fights with other students as well.  He says, “One time I was in the hallway and me and someone else started pushing each other until he threw a water bottle at me and I hit him in the cheek.” The hallways are not playgrounds and should not be used as such.

Bathrooms: 

The school bathrooms have been going through a lot, especially the boys bathrooms on the third floor. The vandalism in the bathrooms has gone as far as breaking and stealing mirrors, taking the soap, and breaking the paper dispenser. All of this has been due to a Tik Tok trend that went so far, even Tik Tok has filtered the words “Devious Lick” in their search bar.

“I saw a few people vaping in the girls bathroom by the expo rooms”, said a seventh grader. 

“I’ve seen soda bottles poured out on the floor,” said another student. All of them said that they have constantly seen students on their phones, sometimes in groups, sometimes alone everytime they go in to do their business. 

The bathrooms are also just generally dirty. There are paper towels all around the floor, which is always wet. Paper is stacked up in the urinals and the stalls so the toilets get clogged and other things like gum are being discarded on the ground.
