Coronavirus, better known as COVID-19 or COVID, has changed our everyday life. From thousands of deaths daily to wearing a faceless mouth and nose mask. We all hope this virus will be over soon so we will finally be back to our normal lives. But how does covid affect kids? Here at MS447, we are experiencing what covid has caused, the change of looks on our face as we wear our masks. But after the winter break, everything changed and many more cases are being reported in the school.
So what kind of year could 2022 be with COVID? Well first we need to stop covid from spreading and being in person is much more dangerous than remote school, so here are some helpful COVID procedures.
Testing Positive- If you tested positive for COVID or have any major symptoms: difficulty breathing or shortness of breath, chest pain or pressure, loss of speech or movement, fever, dry cough, more tiredness than normal, you should:
Call your medical providers, and get tested as soon as you can.
POSITIVE:
If you tested positive, fill this form out: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSebeFPJSO0R4oe- j45IR5IMXeZtj7ZVxJ9LnUSfWJOOj2p_Tg/viewform.
Email documentation of test results to covid19@ms447.org with the subject line: “STUDENT NAME - CLASS # - DATE OF POSITIVE TEST”
Complete the attendance form, https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSceEsSqC07LqpzOtjvdpXo1G63MFO5oROMSB1lrFopv-_X8Gw/viewform, each morning of quarantine by 9:30 AM
Remain in quarantine for 10 days.
Work should be posted in google classroom
CLOSE CONTACT- If you were in close contact with a person that tested positive, you will receive tw0 take-home test kits. These test kits show results within 15-30 minutes after testing
Instructions will be included. Test on the first day that you receive the kit. If Positive, fill out this form: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSebeFPJSO0R4oe-j45IR5IMXeZtj7ZVxJ9LnUSfWJOOj2p_Tg/viewform. If negative. you may return to school.
On the 5th day after the exposure, you should get tested again.
NEGATIVE- If you tested negative you should return to school, even if close contact*
* If no major symptoms.
REMOTE- The school has not yet chosen to go fully remote. The only people going remote are the people that have medical covid related reasons.
VACCINATION- Getting vaccinated helps not only you but the people around you to be immune to the virus. An antigen is contained in the vaccine. But this small part of the antigen is not the whole virus and won’t make you sick. The vaccine works by letting your memory cells know that this is covid-19 so next time they attack, the memory cells (Guard) will recognize. The Antibody will swarm the COVID-19 protein so it can’t connect with a receptor (The thing that lets the virus get into the cell and hijack it.).
SIDE EFFECT- There might be some side effects after relieving the vaccine, one might be fever. The immune system sounds the alarm sending the pyrogens to the hypothalamus (A part of the brain that controls the body temperature),
