School Play Tackles Shakespeare
by Mia Goldstein
This year’s MS 447 school play is Midsummer(ish), a modern version of A Midsummer Night’s Dream by William Shakesphere adapted by Danielle Welch. The play is a romantic comedy involving a Royal wedding, a teenage love triangle, mischievous magical fairies, and a group of bad actors who want to make it big.
The school play is an annual production; however unlike the past few years, this year’s play is note a musical . Last year’s musical was Matilda, Jr. and the year before was Newsies Jr. Many people were surprised that the school is not doing a musical.
Nathan Milkes, 803, who plays Oberon said “I was in the school musical last year and I’ve always found them to be really enjoyable. I definitely would’ve preferred doing a musical rather than a play, but I understand why we can’t so I’m okay with the choices here.”
The amazing cast of 25 students and 11 crew members have been working on the production since January and rehearsing every week. The cast has been working for months and the performances will be on May 8th and 9th starting at 6:00pm in the school auditorium. Shari Acker, the director of the production said “I am very excited about it. It's a great ensemble based play with a large variety of roles for actors.”
