Nobody saw it coming. We were all just living our normal lives when disaster struck and we were all forced to stay at home with our families! Yay. At first we used all the extra time we had to watch TV and play games and watch more TV. But after watching all the good shows on Netflix, Hulu, Prime and Disney+, and watching a million weird youtube videos, we were forced to get creative. So, here are some hobbies and pastimes that some students have picked up during Covid-19!
7th grader, Ava Luyindula, has started to paint and draw during quarantine. She said that it helps make quarantine more bearable because, “It lets me have something to do in my free time other than being on my phone.”
Nikko, who preferred not to say her last name, said she’s started to improve her drawing skills and learned to crochet during quarantine.
“It’s made my quarantine a lot easier because it’s taken away a lot of my boredom, and when you finish a drawing or crocheting piece you feel very satisfied with yourself, which is something you can’t feel when you're sitting at home doing nothing.”
Others have started doing more physical activities!
“I started rollerblading a lot”, said Stella Rojek, “I have been able to go outside and exercise rather than sit inside our apartment. I have been doing this with my family and it has been a lot of fun!”
Jack Persack has been going on walks and having picnics in Prospect Park with his family. He said that they also, “Play board games, watch movies, eat meals together.”
No matter what you decide to do it’s always a good idea to look away from screens for a little while and get creative! Who knows, maybe you’ll find a hidden talent!
