The Tim Burton fan-favorite broadway musical, Beetlejuice, is doomed to leave the stage on January 8, 2023, but Beetlejuice's last sold tickets are not their last performance. Beetlejuice has announced they are going on a 26-city national tour!
“Beetlejuice” is visiting, here are a few: San Francisco, CA USA, Rochester, NY USA, Columbus, OH USA, Orlando, FL USA, but check the broadway website for many many more tour dates and places.
Another possible thing to look forward to is that Tim Burton is in early development on a sequel to the original Beetlejuice and it is rumored to have Michel Keeton coming back as Beetlejuice.
For those who don't know what the movie or musical is about, the show starts when Barbara and Adam Maitland are killed in a car accident, they are forced to remain in their rural home and haunt it. The Maitlands make futile attempts to frighten the obnoxious Deetzes away after they buy the house. Their efforts draw Beetlejuice, a phantom whose "assistance" quickly turns to deadly chaos for the Maitlands and Deetzes.
Beetlejuice’s first Broadway show was on April 25, 2019, it’s been over three years since opening night! When Beetlejuice first opened, the musical was swarmed with mediocre reviews and few ticket sales. But soon after, the younger audience learned to love the music and the show, also gaining fame through social media in the spooky month of October. At the time of Beetlejuice’s closing, the Broadway musical will have performed a total of 679 shows!
The movie “Beetlejuice” was released on March 30th, 1988, so it was a whopping 31 years until the musical was made. Eddie Perfect wrote the music and lyrics for the musical Beetlejuice, and Scott Brown and Anthony King wrote the script.
To know other people's perspectives, we interviewed MS 447’s own theater teacher, Ms Acker!
When asked if they heard that the musical was good and if they would go see it before it closes, she replied, “I actually have heard the musical was good from some people and bad from other people. Personally, I didn't love the movie so I wouldn't be running to go watch the musical before it leaves Broadway. There are other shows I would want to see before Beetlejuice.” This response is quite the opposite of another answer the Wolf Press got from a sixth grader whose name is Clemente Whitson. Clemente said “I would absolutely see the musical if I could.” And when some reporters asked him why, he replied, “Because I do enjoy Broadway musicals and things like Beetlejuice.” So, if you would like to see Beetlejuice on Broadway make sure to get your tickets soon!
