For Social Studies we are using NYC's Passport Curriculum. Sixth Grade will learn the about ancient civilizations around the world and how political structures came into being.
ELA Units of Study: Students will continue to improve their reading and writing skills.
ALL STUDENTS ARE EXPECTED TO READ AT LEAST 30 MINUTES A NIGHT, AND KEEP TRACK OF IT IN A READING LOG.
Students will read at least 3 Novels: The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan,; Bud, Not Buddy by Christopher Curtis; and Dragon Wings Lawrence Yep
Units of Study: Biographical Writing, Narrative Writing, Literature Circles
Novel: Stolen into Slavery: The True Story of Solomon Northrop, Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, The People Could Fly, short stories and primary source documents
Social Studies: Slavery and Abolition in America through the Civil War
