Both the student and their parent/guardian must sign and return the MRHS Student Mobile Device agreement and attend an announced device distribution meeting. An annual usage fee of $20 is required for all students. This fee will be utilized for repairs and maintenance of devices as well as to offset potential peripheral and sustainability costs associated with the devices themselves.
It is recommended that students obtain a protective cover or case, according to their own taste. Hard shell plastic covers are available at the school store.
It is the student's responsibility to keep their devices dry and out of the elements. Most backpacks aren't waterproof and don't serve as sufficient protection from rain. Students can obtain a waterproof cover for their devices or simply wrap them in a plastic bag temporarily.
No. It is mandatory that students use their district-issued devices. A 1:1 learning program is successful when everyone works from an identical platform with identical software. This gives teachers the confidence to develop lessons they know will work for everyone. It also spares teachers from having to troubleshoot different devices while trying to teach a class.
We use Chromebooks as the device of choice for the 1:1 program. These machines offer long battery life in a light chassis with a small footprint. They are very portable and fit easily on student desks.
Teachers and peers are the first resources in helping a student figure out a problem involving the use of a Chromebook. How-to documents and videos will be posted on this site, as well. If the problem is technical in nature, a Chromebook Incident will have to be reported, and a loaner obtained in the Tech Office located in the Media Center.
First, the student must report a Chromebook Incident. After the incident is submitted, a loaner device will be assigned to the student while the original device is repaired.
In the case of a lost or missing device, a Chromebook Incident must be submitted. A lost device will be disabled during an investigation until a proper course of action is determined. If a student and/or parent/guardian suspect(s) that the device has been stolen, a copy of the police report must be submitted to the Main Office for documentary/insurance/warranty purposes as soon as it is available.
Yes. Chromebooks have long battery life, and, assuming they are fully charged in the morning, should last throughout the school day.
Yes. All Internet activity is monitored, both in school and out, at all times. The device is meant for schoolwork only, and should always be used in accordance with Board policies. Only the student's MRHS.NET username should ever be used to log in.
Inappropriate usage will be subject to the same disciplinary procedures as any similar misbehavior would. Such issues are handled on a case-by-case basis.
Although the district continues to strive towards a paperless, digital environment, it is recognized that students will sometimes want to print their work. To accommodate chromebook printing, the Media Center copier can be used as a secure printer. Students will use their student login in order to access their print jobs. Here are the instructions for how to print from a chromebook. Chromebooks will not be able to print anywhere else.
