Highland Elementary

Myleka Garnett, MA, AMFT

My name is Myleka Garnett and I am a Registered Associate Marriage and Family Therapist. I am working as the Mental Health Therapist at Highland Elementary.  I hold a Master’s degree in Psychology and I am currently working towards collecting hours to become a licensed Therapist, under the supervision of Mr. Branham Sanborn.

I’ve been with the school district since 2011, where I first began in the Expanded Learning Opportunities department, with the After School Academy. By 2018, I was hired as the Family Services Specialist at Highland and Seaside, and after completing my degree, I was promoted to the Mental Health Therapist position.

My main goal is to build rapport and to provide a safe place for the individual to feel comfortable with expressing how they feel, no matter what the topic of discussion may be.  Due to the wide age range that I work with from elementary to high school students, my counseling style varies. Interventions consists of art and play therapy, to client centered therapy. I also provide individual and group therapy, depending on what is suitable for that specific person.
