Something Rotten! Jr.
November 20-22, 2026

Set in the 1590s, Something Rotten! Jr. follows struggling playwright brothers Nick and Nigel Bottom, desperate to outshine the rockstar of the Elizabethan era: William Shakespeare. Desperate for a hit, they consult a soothsayer who predicts the future of theater involves acting, singing, and dancing at the same time, prompting them to create the world's first musical.

Performance Dates

Friday, 11/20 8am - regular cast, all school performance (students only)
Friday 11/20 6pm - regular cast, open to the public
Saturday 11/21 1pm - regular cast, open to the public
Saturday 11/21 4pm - understudy cast, open to the public
Sunday, 11/22 1pm - regular cast, open to the public

Location: performances will be at the Millard North Middle School gym

Tickets

Tickets will go on sale about 1 month prior to the performance weekend and will be sold online. An email will be sent with the link to purchase tickets.

Ticket cost: there will be a range of tickets from $5 to $15 for various ticket levels
Tickets must be purchased for anyone attending (students in the cast and crew will each receive 2 tickets for parents, family members, etc. Others must be purchased.)

Costumes

We have volunteers managing costumes. (Bione Dudley: bione.dudley@gmail.com; bione.dudley@milanlaser.com and Rayna Schramm: rayna@danceoutloudproductions.com )
Parents may choose to supply costumes pieces they are comfortable using or purchasing. If you need assistance sourcing costume pieces, please let us know and we will assist.

Parent Expectations & Roles

We need a lot of parent involvement for our production to be a success!
We ask that every parent volunteer for at least 1-2 shifts, but we welcome more.
If you are not able to volunteer your time, please consider contributing food, supplies or other items.
We will send an email within the next week with a Sign Up Genius for parents to sign up for volunteer spots and donation items.

Roles:

Food - provide food for volunteers building sets, making costumes, helping with rehearsals, etc.
Costumes/Backstage - assist with organizing costumes and props during rehearsals and performances.
Front of House - help sell tickets, fundraiser items, raffle tickets, and concessions.
Set Build - help build set pieces, paint, make props, etc. No experience is necessary; we welcome all skill levels.

We find the more involved parents become, the more the students get out of this experience!

Rehearsals

Rehearsals are on Mondays and Wednesdays after school from 3:15 to 5:30.
Not every role needs to be at every rehearsal. See the schedule below with the dates each role needs to be present.
It is expected and required for your student to practice at home outside our scheduled rehearsal times. There is a lot of content to learn in a very short period of time, and outside practice on their own is the only way students will learn their role in time for the performances.
This applies to learning lines in particular! Students will not learn their lines if they rely on rehearsal only and do not practice at home.
The more students practice at home, the more prepared they will be and the better experience they will have being a part of this production!
The last two weeks of rehearsal are MANDATORY
