Welcome to the 2018-2019 school year! This year's school and district theme is "#BeKind". Each grade level will be focusing on kindness within our school community and beyond!
- No School -
Just a reminder that there will be no school on Wednesday, November 21st, Thursday, November 22nd, and Friday, November 23rd.
- Using Exact Path -
To access your child's Exact Path account, simply go to our "Additional Resources" at the top right hand corner of this screen and click on the link located under "Exact Path". (You can also access Exact Path by going to the Wheeler Webpage, clicking on "Student Links", then clicking on Exact path.) Once you have accessed Exact Path, you will need to enter MLRDSD as the account login, followed by your child's username and password. (Teachers sent home username and passwords already- some teachers used Seesaw.) Students have practiced getting onto their accounts since it is a different process from last year, so they should know what to do as long as they have the account login. If you have any questions, please see your child's teacher.
- Weather Appropriate Dress -
Winter has arrived! Please make sure to send your child with appropriate winter dress: heavy coats, hats, gloves, boots, etc. We always check the weather before we go outside, and unless it is raining or below zero, we will be going outside every day. If you would like to send a bag to keep your child's snow gear (snow pants and boots) in for when we're not at recess, that would be a great help in keeping backpacks dry!
- Special Treats -
According to the 2017-18 District Student Handbook, all food brought into the District for classroom use (i.e. parties, birthdays, Wildcat of the Week, general treats, etc.) must be store bought, unopened, and include an ingredient label on the package. Please avoid all peanut and tree nut products. (This includes peanut butter.)
We also ask that you send treats that are consistent for all students. For example, if you choose to send doughnuts, please make sure you send two dozen glazed, or two dozen chocolate frosted, or whichever variety of your choosing. (Another example: if sending cookies, please send all cookies with the same color frosting.) Your cooperation with this request makes passing out treats a quick process.
***Please also make sure to send all necessary items required to serve this treat such as plates, napkins, etc. as we do not have these supplies at school.
Reading & Math Logs
Reading and practicing math facts outside of the classroom is essential for continued success in Second Grade. We want our students to practice their basic addition and subtraction facts as well as reading skills several times a week. In your child's Daily Notebook, you will find a green page with two columns: one for reading practice and one for math practice. If you child reads or is read to for at least 15 minutes, please sign and date the reading column. If your child practices his or her math facts for 15 minutes, please sign and date the math column. Please send the calendar back at the end of the month. For those students that have 20 signatures for reading AND 20 signatures for math (for a total of 40 signatures) we will have a celebration.
