Welcome to the 2018-2019 school year! This year's school and district theme is "#BeKind". Each grade level will be focusing on kindness within our school community and beyond!
- MAP TESTING -
Next week (August 20th- 24th) second grade students will be participating in their first MAP tests for the school year. Students will be taking both a reading and a math assessment. In order to set students up for success it is very important that students get plenty of rest, breakfast in the morning, and are on time to school. The results of these tests will help guide daily instruction. Please take time to talk with your child about the importance of taking their and trying their best so that the results are as accurate as possible.
- Curriculum Night -
This year second grade teachers will be hosting a flipped digital curriculum night. Instead of hosting a typical curriculum night that would take place in the classroom, we will be filming a short video explaining classroom routines as well as our second grade curriculum. This will be sent out and available August 30th. Feel free to watch the video at your leisure and if you have any questions we will be hosting an office hours Q & A night on Thursday, September 6th, from 4:15 to 4:45 pm. Please see your child's teacher if you have additional questions regarding our flipped curriculum night.
- School Carnival -
Please consider helping out next Friday, August 24th!

- Special Treats -
According to the 2017-18 District Student Handbook, all food brought into the District for classroom use (i.e. parties, birthdays, Wildcat of the Week, general treats, etc.) must be store bought, unopened, and include an ingredient label on the package. Please avoid all peanut and tree nut products. (This includes peanut butter.)
We also ask that you send treats that are consistent for all students. For example, if you choose to send doughnuts, please make sure you send two dozen glazed, or two dozen chocolate frosted, or whichever variety of your choosing. (Another example: if sending cookies, please send all cookies with the same color frosting.) Your cooperation with this request makes passing out treats a quick process.
***Please also make sure to send all necessary items required to serve this treat such as plates, napkins, etc. as we do not have these supplies at school.
Reading & Math Logs
Reading and practicing math facts outside of the classroom is essential for continued success in Second Grade. We want our students to practice their basic addition and subtraction facts as well as reading skills several times a week. In your child's Daily Notebook, you will find a green page with two columns: one for reading practice and one for math practice. If you child reads or is read to for at least 15 minutes, please sign and date the reading column. If your child practices his or her math facts for 15 minutes, please sign and date the math column. Please send the calendar back at the end of the month. For those students that have 20 signatures for reading AND 20 signatures for math (for a total of 40 signatures) we will have a celebration.
