Welcome to the 2017-2018 school year! This year's school theme is "The best of me, the best of we- The Pact". Each Second Grade classroom has created a pact to help us be accountable to each other in achieving a specific goal. Please visit your child's teacher's page to see what your child's classroom pact is this year.
- HELP! -
The Second grade teachers are in dire need of black dry erase Expo markers. We use these markers daily throughout our math lessons, small group lessons, and across our curriculum. It's only October and we are out! If you would like to donate to our classrooms we would very much appreciate it. We promise to put your donations to good use!
-Halloween Party & Parade-
Our annual Halloween party and parade will be on Tuesday, October 31st.
- The parade starts at 2:00 in the front parking lot unless it is raining or snowing.
- Parents are asked to stand on the grassy areas of the front drive so that students can watch from the sidewalk.
- The Halloween party will be from 2:30-3:30. Parents are welcome to join us for both.
- Parents not wanting their child to participate in the Halloween activities should contact their teacher so we can arrange for alternative activities.
- Please take a moment to RSVP for the Halloween Party. To RSVP please fill out the form below. Completing this form helps us to provide an efficient security measure for all adults entering Wheeler on this festive day!
- Special Treats -
If you plan on sending treats to school for Birthday's or Wildcat of the Week, we ask that you choose a snack that is consistent for all students. For example, if you choose to send doughnuts, please make sure you send two dozen glazed, or two dozen chocolate frosted, or whichever variety of your choosing. (Another example: if sending cookies, please send all cookies with the same color frosting.) Your cooperation with this request makes passing out treats a much simpler process since choice can be difficult. Please also make sure to send all necessary items required to serve this treat such as plates, napkins, forks, or spoons. **Lastly, please avoid all peanut and treenut products. (This includes peanut butter.)
This week we are beginning our spelling routines. This week each student is studying the same list of "lesson words" in order to get students into the routine of practicing spelling words each night. Spelling words are sent home on both a yellow piece of paper as well as submitted on Seesaw. Information for gaining access to your child's Seesaw account was sent home at Open House. If you have difficulty gaining access to your child's Seesaw account, please see your child's teacher.
Reading & Math Logs
Reading and practicing math facts outside of the classroom is essential for continued success in Second Grade. We want our students to practice their basic addition and subtraction facts as well as reading skills several times a week. In your child's Daily Notebook, you will find a green page with two columns: one for reading practice and one for math practice. If you child reads or is read to for at least 15 minutes, please sign and date the reading column. If your child practices his or her math facts for 15 minutes, please sign and date the math column. Please send the calendar back at the end of the month. For those students that have 20 signatures for reading AND 20 signatures for math (for a total of 40 signatures) we will have a celebration.
