About Dr. Rom

Brittany Rom received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Instrumental Music Education, with a minor in Psychology, from Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota in 2004, where she founded their collegiate chapter of American String Teachers Association. She received a Master of Music Degree in Cello Performance from the University of Nebraska in Omaha in 2010. Brittany completed her PhD in Music Education and Educational Psychology at the University of Nebraska Lincoln in 2020; her research areas include practice and expertise development. Dr. Rom began her teaching career with the Millard Public Schools in 2005, where she currently serves as Director of Orchestras at Millard South High School, as well as three elementary schools in Millard. Dr. Rom received the “2009 Outstanding Young Music Educator Award” from the Nebraska Music Educators Association, the “2012 Outstanding Public School Teacher Award” from the Nebraska American String Teachers Association, and the "2018 Millard South High School Teacher of the Year Award" from the Millard South Chapter of National Honors Society. In 2012, Brittany spent the summer at Indiana University Jacobs School of Music observing their Summer String Academy and studying violin pedagogy with Mimi Zweig and other amazing musicians and educators from around the world. In 2013, Rom had the honor of participating in the Educator as Maestro program with the Omaha Symphony, studying conducting with David Barg and Thomas Wilkins. She currently serves on the Nebraska American String Teachers Association Executive Board. Brittany is married to Matthew Rom, who is Director of Bands at Elkhorn North High School. They are parents of an energetic eight-year-old.
